We had thought with our move in June and as I had mentioned in earlier post that we will decide to let go/sell most of our stuff this time and see how it goes to empty everything out. But did we have the time! It was actually around 10 days between the moving date and the date when we knew we have to move. It wasn’t an easy decision knowing that I had bought all my furniture 2 years back but we decided to let it go anyways or at least give it a shot. I posted an ad on craigslist and the very next day a lady called. She wanted to see the stuff and decide. The very next day I had sold most of the furniture that I had listed and I was glad it went to a lady from Korea who is doing some great work in Africa every once
in a while. I had always heard about such people who would leave their families and go away for months to help out a cause. This whole incident of moving actually gave me the opportunity to meet one too, hats off to the dedication she and folks like her have. So coming back to the furniture , there were other pieces that I hadn’t put up on craiglist that day but I still wanted to sell them later. Now all of that stuff didn’t go and later I understood why. For example the queen bed was sold but the mattress was not, the sofa was not sold, my son’s bed and so on and so forth.
The reason that I understood later was that we still needed a mattress to sleep and a place to sit when we moved as we did not have the time to go and look for new stuff before we moved, so it was a real blessing that these things were not sold. Again this move was smooth, pretty smooth I would say and in addition to the furniture we let go of more stuff. I feel we had opened up to the idea that it is necessary to let more stuff go. And so in spite of the fact that we had given away like 7 big boxes last time we still gave away another 8 – 9 boxes. There was so much stuff that was just garbage, we just realized that we were still holding on to so much more which I feel in turn was holding us in place, kind of stuck. So there were big loads of garbage and recycle that went out again with in last cleansing of three months. In fact we decided that anything from the house that we moved in from 2 years back we would not keep. Some of the things were really hard to let go of but we did. And this is funny that some of things that we didn’t realize that were coming from that house, universe had its own way to let it go. Like the items in question were some glass storage jars that were coming from our previous residence and we never thought about them. However the universe had its own plans, while we were unloading stuff to move into the new house a box fell from one of the movers and it crashed and what was in there, THE JARS that we had not considered. So there was this whole bunch of jars which had broken down, crashed and had to be let go.
And at some level I am sure that all the cleaning and creating space in our last move actually paved the way for us to find this house which is remarkably bright. So we had a big list of requirements from the house that we were looking for and to find an apartment like that, many people didn’t think that it is a possibility that too in the city. So just to give you a brief I really didn’t want to be too far away from the ground floor but I still wanted to have a good open spacious view. And what I got is an apartment at the 2nd Floor with open spacious views of a part of Montreal and the River St Laurent, it has got a huge balcony which overlooks some trees, a green area and the feel is almost like a vacation home if you sit outside. It is difficult to believe that such a place exists right in the city. And of course it is bright, much brighter than any of the places we have lived in :-) till now. The balcony gives a great feel of being closer to like all the elements all the time the earth, fire(Sun), water(with the view of the river), air and space (with wide open spaces and the sky). The dining area inside also overlooks this beautiful view from outside.
I have used the balcony of this apartment in last four weeks much more than I have ever used the balcony of some other apartments in last couple of years. And I am sure you will see what I am talking about here in this snapshot below with what I get to spend time with in the balcony. So that is it with the current move and this has facilitated a larger cleaning of the stuff at a physical level, mental, emotional and spiritual too. I would invite everyone to look into their surroundings again and see what is it that is not required anymore at a physical, mental, emotional every level in your space - it is time to let it go!
A big thanks to all those who facilitated this move again and as one of my friends posed this question to me with a grin on his face “When are you moving next”? I end this post with saying that we are always moving, we have to! Albeit not in the sense of moving houses always. But that can also be a very liberating, rewarding experience if we choose it to be that way.
Until the next move,

PS : The Rose that you see is in our Balcony and I realised that this plant suddenly bloomed again (after 3 months) as soon as we moved and we had thought that it was done for the season, it likes the new balcony it seems :-).
